DANGEROUS ITEMS/WEAPONS:
To maintain school safety, students are prohibited from bringing dangerous items, weapons, or facsimiles of weapons to school. Students who suspect another student has brought or plans to bring a dangerous item or weapon to school have the responsibility to tell an adult immediately.
Any student who accidentally brings a dangerous item to school should bring it to an administrator immediately and not show others. Please see the link to JSD policy AS67 for more information.
DISRESPECT and INSUBORDINATION: The refusal to follow a reasonable directive by school personnel is considered insubordination and may result in school discipline. Serious or repeated infractions will result in suspension.
FIGHTING: Fighting at school or at school-related activities is prohibited. Students involved are subject to
suspension and possible police charges. Provoking, encouraging, or recording a fight will result in school discipline.
HARASSMENT/BULLYING:
South Hills is committed to providing a safe and civil school environment in which all members of the school community are treated with dignity and respect. Please see JSD policy AS98 for more information.
Bullying, cyberbullying, or harassment that is found to be targeted as a protected class is prohibited under federal anti-discrimination laws. Please see JSD Policy AS94 for more information.
Serious or repeated infractions will result in suspension.
If you or someone you know are being bullied:
● Tell the individual who is bullying to stop and that the behavior is not wanted.
● Tell a parent or guardian.
● Report incidents to an administrator or a counselor, teacher, hall monitor, school resource officer, and/or SafeUT app
ILLEGAL DRUGS, ALCOHOL, VAPING and TOBACCO:
The possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, or other prohibited substances constitutes a hazard to students and is disruptive to the educational process. Please see JSD Policy AS90 for more information. Consequences for AS90 violations will include parent contact, suspension, and other district or school requirements based on severity and number of infractions.
PROFANE or VULGAR GESTURES, LANGUAGE, PICTURES, or VIDEOS:
Gestures, language, pictures, video, etc., that are lewd, vulgar, gross, obscene, defamatory, or otherwise disruptive to the educational environment are inappropriate for any school environment. Infractions may result in school discipline.
PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION:
Public displays of affection (such as longer hugs and kissing) are inappropriate at school and school-sponsored activities. Students will be warned for initial violations. Repeated violations will result in parent contact and school discipline.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT:
Sexual harassment, assault, misconduct/lewdness, or inappropriate sexual behavior at school is defined as “unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and/or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that is based on sex, gender, or gender characteristics ”towards another person or group. Please see JSD policy AS94 for more information.
When sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, or inappropriate sexual behavior is reported to administration, the report is presented to the Jordan School District Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator then determines next steps in the process. Each party involved receives a Title IX notification letter, and school administration offers supportive measures. Additional district and/or school actions are determined throughout the process.
